Online “Multi-Office” training for collaboration across law firms

Today’s ‘global’ law firms still have inconsistent English, resulting in customer service gaps, poorly-translated documents, weak contracts, and wasted time. This occurs within the firm, across firm offices, as well as with governments, other law firms and companies. Our distinctive ‘Multi-Office’ courses are designed to create language consistency, reliability, and convenience for international clients and colleagues.

Multi-Office Drafting and Editing Shared Documents (3 hours)

Even before digitalization, multi-authored documents were complex projects. Now, lawyers work instantaneously with clients and other lawyers across the World. Documents are updated by sometimes 100 different authors and editors. How can law firms simplify all this and ensure consistent quality? This three-hour intensive session ‘mirrors’ the process of professional multi-authoring and peer-review editing with a focus on shared English documents in law firms. Participants will learn as a team with real legal documents to create cohesive and clear structures; develop and follow usage guidelines; adapt to various styles related to genre and audience; take different roles in completing multi-authored documents; comment with actionable items; and finish the project on time.

Multi-Office Partner Level Pitching (3 hours) *Extra Charge

Convincing large clients to hire your firm on global cases requires more than a good network or track record. The ability to write and speak persuasively in English at the advanced level shows excellence and enables better communication across executives in different countries. Clients at the top-level seek consistent language and interactions with expert communicators. The pitching techniques offered in this workshop are designed for senior associates and partners who want to take their English to the next level of advanced sales, influence, and persuasion. Through a series of role-plays, participants learn how to activate storytelling, metaphor, dialectic, comparison, and other persuasive skills through specific language that targets international audiences.

Multi-Office Contract Drafting (3 hours)

Drafting contracts can be complex – much more when they cross jurisdictional, cultural, and linguistic lines. This workshop is for two groups, associate and advanced. Through short case analyses, participants learn: structuring and content principles; contract vocabulary and punctuation; how to avoid common errors; and the ‘rule-based reasoning’ linguistic approach that works in any language for drafting new provisions, editing existing provisions, or writing whole contracts. This course can be combined with ‘Multi-Office Drafting’ to provide activities targeted to multi-authored contracts.

Multi-Office Negotiation

This full-day or two half-day online workshop combines a multistakeholder approach to negotiation. As a ‘Negotiation in English’ workshop the session includes language, phrasing and role plays for both speaking and writing to win in various situations such as contracts, arbitrations, and client bids. Co-taught by the Negotiation Academy and our lawyer-linguists, this powerhouse introduction gives associates and partners alike a communicative edge in international negotiations.

Multi-Office Legal Assistants and Paralegals

This course takes a “client-centric” approach to general and advanced English for legal assistants and secretarial staff. The sessions are designed to teach standard phrases when dealing with clients and lawyers from around the World, then trainers work with the team to formulate a series of templates so assistants all speak and write consistently across branches and countries. Integrated into each session are advanced grammar and law firm relevant vocabulary. The sessions include note-taking and listening skills, conflict management skills, customer service language, firm-specific writing style, emailing and telephoning skills, video-conferencing, social media (LinkedIn) communication, and general business English communication.
